How can the Bible give me comfort?

Psalm 119:49-50, 52, 54Remember your promise to me; it is my only hope. Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles. . . . I meditate on your age-old regulations; O Lord, they comfort me. . . . Your decrees have been the theme of my songs wherever I have lived.

These phrases from Psalm 119, like much of the psalm, include reminders of the security and sense of well-being that flow from letting our lives be shaped and directed by God’s Word.

Proverbs 30:5Every word of God proves true. He is a shield to all who come to him for protection.

Behind God’s statements are the character and power of God himself. God speaks truth and protects those who entrust themselves to the truth they discover in his Word.

The Bible is filled with God’s promises, which give us comfort and encouragement in this life as well as the confident assurance that we will one day live forever in peace and security with him.
