What happens in me when I recognize God’s awesomeness?

Exodus 15:11“Who is like you among the gods, O Lord—glorious in holiness, awesome in splendor, performing great wonders?”

Psalm 90:11Who can comprehend the power of your anger? Your wrath is as awesome as the fear you deserve.

Luke 5:26Everyone was gripped with great wonder and awe, and they praised God, exclaiming, “We have seen amazing things today!”

Fear of God is different from a fear of other powerful things. We hide from the power of a severe storm or run from the power of a tidal wave crashing on the shore. But the awesomeness of God’s power is amazing and captivating. The more we see God’s awesomeness at work in our lives and the world around us, the more we will desire to be near him and experience his empowering Spirit. Recognizing God’s awesomeness puts us in the middle of his glory and helps us experience both God’s presence and his unconditional love.
