How can I be sure of God’s love for me?
Lamentations 3:22-23The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.
John 6:37“Those the Father has given me will come to me, and I will never reject them.”
John 10:28-30“I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me, for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand. The Father and I are one.”
We can be sure of God’s love for us because of his power and promises. Our confidence is rooted in God’s hold on us, not our grip on God. When we give our lives to him, he will take us and never let us go.
John 3:16“This is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
Romans 5:8God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
Romans 8:35, 38-39Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? . . . I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
We can be fully assured of God’s love for us because love is woven into his character. God is love. Love is not merely something God does; love is who he is. And we see God’s love in action in Jesus. We can be sure of God’s love because of what he has done for us in sending his Son to save us.
