In what areas does God consider age an irrelevant issue?

Exodus 7:7Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three when they made their demands to Pharaoh.

Joshua 13:1When Joshua was an old man, the Lord said to him, “You are growing old, and much land remains to be conquered.”

Joshua 14:11“I am as strong now as I was when Moses sent me on that journey, and I can still travel and fight as well as I could then.”

1 Samuel 2:18Samuel, though he was only a boy, served the Lord. He wore a linen garment like that of a priest.

1 Samuel 16:7The Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

Jeremiah 1:6-8“O Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I can’t speak for you! I’m too young!” The Lord replied, “Don’t say, ‘I’m too young,’ for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you. And don’t be afraid of the people, for I will be with you and will protect you. I, the Lord, have spoken!”

God uses people of every age to do his work. No one is too old or too young to have an impact for God. People look at our outward appearance and other superficial factors including age, but God looks at our hearts.

2 Chronicles 34:3During the eighth year of his reign, while he was still young, Josiah began to seek the God of his ancestor David. Then in the twelfth year he began to purify Judah and Jerusalem, destroying all the pagan shrines, the Asherah poles, and the carved idols and cast images.

Job 32:7-9“I thought, ‘Those who are older should speak, for wisdom comes with age.’ But there is a spirit within people, the breath of the Almighty within them, that makes them intelligent. Sometimes the elders are not wise. Sometimes the aged do not understand justice.”

Psalm 119:100I am even wiser than my elders, for I have kept your commandments.

James 1:5If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.

Although wisdom is generally associated with years of experience that come with age, God’s wisdom is available to all regardless of age. Some young people are wise, and some older people are foolish.

Psalm 71:17-18O God, you have taught me from my earliest childhood, and I constantly tell others about the wonderful things you do. Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me proclaim your power to this new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me.

1 Timothy 4:12Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.

No one is ever too young or too old to serve God wholeheartedly.

God’s Word is relevant and applicable to people of every age.
