Do I have to be unusually smart to give good advice?

1 Corinthians 12:8To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge.

James 1:5If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.

Ultimately, God is the source of all wisdom. If we wish to be wise advisors, intelligence is less important than humility and respect for him. Some people are given a special gift of wisdom from the Holy Spirit. But even if wisdom is not our specific gift, God answers prayer for wisdom, and we can always point people to God’s Word—our richest source of good advice.
