How is adoption a picture of my relationship with God?
John 1:12To all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.
Galatians 4:4-5When the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children.
Ephesians 1:4-6Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son.
The process of adoption is a beautiful example of God’s love for us. Just as adoptive parents offer a child a new life, Jesus offers us a new life we couldn’t otherwise have received. Just as adoptive parents treasure and delight in their new children, God treasures and delights in us. Adoptive parents lovingly teach and nurture children, providing them with all the rights and privileges of being a member of the family. As a child of God, we also are privileged to receive all God’s care and blessings, both in this life and the next.
