Why is it important to be part of a group of Christians for accountability?

Mark 6:7He [Jesus] called his twelve disciples together and began sending them out two by two, giving them authority to cast out evil spirits.

Acts 4:32-34All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had . . . There were no needy people among them, because those who owned land or houses would sell them.

Acts 13:2-4One day as these men were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Appoint Barnabas and Saul for the special work to which I have called them.” So after more fasting and prayer, the men laid their hands on them and sent them on their way. So Barnabas and Saul were sent out by the Holy Spirit. They went down to the seaport of Seleucia and then sailed for the island of Cyprus.

Ephesians 4:15-16Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.

Communities of believers share life and responsibilities, gaining strength from their mutual encouragement and accountability. The different gifts and experiences of each member compliment the others and provide balance and support in practical ways.

Luke 17:3“So watch yourselves! If another believer sins, rebuke that person; then if there is repentance, forgive.”

Hebrews 10:24-25Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

We need other Christians to hold us accountable. When we are headed in the wrong direction, other Christians can encourage us to follow God’s way.

Psalm 116:14I will keep my promises to the Lord in the presence of all his people.
