Worth It All

Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things; I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.

Matthew 25:21

Sitting atop the Mount of Olives, Jesus spoke to His disciples about the end of the age and the signs of His return. His sermon—known as the Olivet discourse—is recorded in Matthew 24 and 25. There are ninety-three verses of text in this message. The first thirty-eight verses are devoted to outlining the events of the last days. But the last fifty-five verses—roughly two-thirds of the whole sermon—are devoted to life application. Using exhortation and illustration, Jesus warns us to stay busy until He comes, working for the Kingdom, our eyes scanning the eastern sky.

Biblical prophecy isn’t written to intrigue us but to transform us. Because of Christ’s expected return, we live with anticipation, comforting others with the truths of the coming Rapture. We ought to live with holiness and purity while awaiting His return. We should be working and witnessing, watching and waiting, worshiping and walking with Him. If we’re faithful in the few things assigned to us by the Master, when He comes we’ll hear Him say, “Well done.” And it will be worth it all.

One glimpse of His dear face all sorrow will erase, so bravely run the race till we see Christ.
