Traveling Light

Beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace.

2 Peter 3:14

Seasoned travelers enjoy packing for trips; it’s part of the anticipation. But we’re also learning to travel light because of increased costs and security complications at the airport. It’s helpful to have wrinkle-proof clothing made from modern microfibers that can be washed out at night. Some travel companies even make garments you can wash and put right on with the assurance that they’ll dry on your body within an hour. That may be going too far, but planning and packing for a big vacation increases our eagerness.

No weekend getaway or overseas odyssey can compare to the reservations being held for us in heaven. The Lord Jesus is preparing a place for us in the diamond-like city of New Jerusalem, and one day we’ll walk alongside the Crystal River, gaze at the towering walls, visit the Tree of Life Park, and worship by the throne of God.

Traveling light is a good philosophy for life. This world isn’t our home; we’re just passing through. Today pack your mind with God’s Word, and anticipate your eternal home.

Alas! how we forget that we are but strangers and pilgrims on the earth; that we are journeying to our eternal home, and will soon be there!
