The Best Place To Be

Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content.

A quick survey of Internet dating sites—as well as brick-and-mortar “speed dating” businesses in major cities—could lead one to think being single is a disease that needs to be cured. First it was websites devoted to matching up singles that took the Internet by storm, quickly becoming the most popular new category of websites. But now dating websites are specializing into subsites that help singles find each other more quickly on the basis of religion, age, location, and most recently, preferences such as cooking and fine foods.

But that’s a sign of the times, not a sign of what’s required. In God’s eyes, singleness is a season of life like any other. According to Scripture, there are some benefits of this season. By activating their singleness for the Lord, singles are able to experience the joy of service. They are able to live with a focus on God, not distracted by marital concerns. If you are single, be thankful for the time and ability you have to walk uninterrupted with Christ (1 Corinthians 7:33-34).

It has been well said that the best place in the world to be is the place to which God has led you today.

Next to faith this is the highest art—to be content with the calling in which God has placed you.
