To which of the angels has He ever said: “Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool”?
Hebrews 1:13
A prominent religion, with temples located around the world, honors an angel with a statue in all its temples. The Washington, DC, temple has a statue of this angel that is more than eighteen feet tall, weighing four thousand pounds. This angel is revered because he supposedly revealed the religion’s sacred writings to its founder.
While this religion claims roots in Christianity, it is far from the truth of God’s Word, and it gets the angel part completely wrong. Nowhere in the Bible are angels elevated or venerated. They are powerful and faithful servants of God, but they are created beings. Only One person in Christian Scriptures is to be elevated and worshiped above all: Jesus Christ. The writer to the Hebrews makes it clear that no angel has ever been accorded the status of God’s Son, Jesus Christ. While we are thankful for the work of these created servants of God—and their ministry to us—Christians should never make the mistake of worshiping them (Colossians 2:18).
There is no other name under heaven like Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12).
An angel is a spiritual creature created by God without a body, for the services of Christendom and of the church.
MARTIN LUTHER
