Never Alone

He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Hebrews 13:5

One of the most well-known folk-pop songs from the 1960s was Paul Simon’s “I Am a Rock.” In this sad song, Simon wrote, “Hiding in my room, safe within my womb. I touch no one and no one touches me. I am a rock, I am an island. And a rock feels no pain; and an island never cries.” Loneliness wasn’t a symptom just of the tumultuous sixties. Most modern societies could be described as collections of intimate strangers.

One of the benefits of knowing God is the reality that we are never alone. Not only is God omnipresent (present everywhere at once), but Christ lives in believers by the presence of the Holy Spirit (John 14:26-27; 16:8-11; Galatians 2:20). That means that we can never escape God’s presence (Psalm 139:5-12). Whether we are literally alone or just feel alone in the midst of a crowd, the fact is that He is always near. God is only a prayer away.

Whether you feel alone or lonely—you are actually neither. God is with you and will never leave you. And where God is, there is also His peace. As the bumper sticker says, “No God, no peace. Know God, know peace.” You can’t be an island when surrounded by Him.

Walking with our divine Lord we should never feel lonely and never feel lost.
