Faithful And True

He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.

1 Thessalonians 5:24

Modern consumers have developed a cynical streak when it comes to shopping. On the one hand, they fear that “planned obsolescence” on the part of the manufacturer will cause their product to have a short life. On the other hand, they fear that if they buy the “extended warranty” (and don’t read the fine print), there will be a loophole that keeps the warranty from applying in their particular situation.

The “Yeah, right” syndrome is pervasive in our culture. We have been disappointed so often that we find it difficult to know who to trust and what to believe. And, by cultural osmosis, that attitude creeps into the spiritual life and impacts our willingness to trust God. Can what He says be trusted implicitly? A good example of an eternal promise from God is in Jeremiah 31:35-37, where God promises that the universe—sun, moon, stars—will remain stable as a sign of His faithfulness in His promises to the Jews. God’s promises are “exceedingly great and precious” (2 Peter 1:4), and we are invited to taste them (Psalm 34:8).

God is faithful and thus is His Word. Millions have proven His promises to be true; none have proven them otherwise.

God promises to keep His people, and He will keep His promises.
