Divine Peace

To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven. . . . A time of war, and a time of peace.

Ecclesiastes 3:1, 8

There has never been a generation that hasn’t seen some sort of conflict or war somewhere in the world. War is an evil that exists because of man’s sin, and ironically, it is sometimes used as a means for providing and ensuring peace. As the late President Ronald Reagan stated, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.”

Though we must temporarily endure the realities and tragedies of war for the sake of earthly peace and protection, there will come a day when the final battle is fought and true divine peace rests upon the earth. The Bible says, “They shall not hurt nor destroy . . . for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea” (Isaiah 11:9). Sin will no longer provoke us to fight with one another, and freedom will belong to everyone without struggle.

Meanwhile, as we watch countries collide in battles of freedom and justice, let us stand firm in His Word as we hope and pray for that glorious day.

If you want peace, understand war.
