Crazy Busy

Be still, and know that I am God.

Psalm 46:10

In his book CrazyBusy: Overstretched, Overbooked and About to Snap!, Edward M. Hallowell writes about the moment he knew he had crossed the line from busy to crazy busy. When his cell phone wouldn’t work, Hallowell was forced to use a rotary dial phone to make his call. He just about went nuts waiting for the dial to return to start with every number. Then, calming down, he timed the steps. The entire dialing process took all of eleven seconds. “What a fool I had become,” he writes. “I had become a man in a hurry even when I had no need to hurry.”^a

Sometimes we’re too busy to even notice we’re busy. Our daily tasks weigh us down, and we unwittingly neglect what’s most important—our inner nourishment and our family fellowship. Plan time for rest. Build some solitude into your routine. Establish plenty of time for your spouse and family. Stop being crazy busy. Be still and remember Him who rules over all.

Be still, my soul: thy God doth undertake to guide the future as He has the past.
