Undone
Undone
If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.
O Lord, I have so much to do
But not the energy to do it all.
My appetite for productivity
Is greater than my appetite for you.
I treasure
Moving forward,
Making progress,
Having something to show
For the hours I lived.
I desire
To be known,
To be seen,
To be thanked,
To be affirmed.
My flesh rages
Against communion with you.
My mind wrestles
To be at peace.
My fingers tighten
Rather than let go.
I admit—
Being still
Is harder
Than being productive.
Being quiet
Is harder
Than speaking up.
Being prayerful
Is harder
Than making plans.
Forgive me
For loving my lists
More than I love you.
I confess
My short-sighted desires,
And I request
An eternal-minded heart.
There will always be more to do
And not enough energy to get it done.
Help me to choose you
And learn how to leave loose ends
Undone.a
Word before World You only have a limited amount of time and energy each day. Ask the Lord to show you what his priorities are, and learn to leave what cannot be completed, undone.
Grow in Grace Do you take pride in placing a checkmark next to the items on your task list? Confess your desire to be able to do all things in your own strength, and surrender your time and energy to the Lord.
