Your Valuable Contribution

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

Acts 2:42

When you think, No one is going to miss me; it doesn’t really matter if I show up to church or tithe; no one is going to notice, remember that God has placed you where you are for a reason, and your fellowship with other believers is important.

You definitely notice when one tiny member of your physical body is out of place, don’t you? When I displaced my ACL during a skiing accident, I didn’t even know I had an ACL. But when that tiny ligament behind my knee slipped out of place, it crippled my whole body with pain and put me in a brace for weeks. The small, seemingly insignificant parts of the body can have an astounding effect when they’re out of fellowship with others. The apostles understood this. That’s why they were devoted to one another.

Whether you’re that ligament, elbow, knee, foot, or one of the more “celebrated” and “glamorous” parts like the mouth or eye, know that God has set you in your place. When you devalue your contribution, you cripple the body and tire out other parts who have to compensate for your absence. You are valuable—and everyone really does need you!
