Your Metamorphosis

One of my favorite books when I was a child was The Very Hungry Caterpillar. In the story, that little insect eats and eats! He consumes everything from apples to cupcakes. And once he’s finished eating and is twelve times his original size, he enters a cocoon to sleep things off. The best part of the book is the final moment when my little friend turns into a stunning butterfly. It’s a beautiful story of the transformation process we know as metamorphosis.

I believe, as Christians, we too go through a metamorphosis. As we abide in the word, it’s as though we’re spinning our own spiritual cocoon—a hidden place where an unseen work takes place. It’s where we’re transformed from the inside out into the image of Jesus. It happens slowly over time, as we allow the Word to shape our thoughts and change our lives. The final result is a complete transformation—an external manifestation of an internal process. It’s our own metamorphosis into who God created us to be, fulfilling all that God has called us to do.

So, the next time you read your Bible, think of the hungry caterpillar and all that you are destined to become.

Lord Jesus, thank You for growing me in the safety and wisdom of Your Word. Thank You for how it changes me, inside and out.
