The One Who Sends You

The LORD turned to [Gideon] and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?”

Judges 6:14

When the Lord chose Gideon to lead Israel into battle against the Midianite army, he answered, “O my Lord, how can I save Israel?” (Judges 6:15 NKJV). Good question! He couldn’t—but God could.

Gideon felt inadequate and unqualified. He mentally was stuck on his limitations. Gideon wasn’t even convinced that God was on his side. But God’s choice was not based on Gideon’s faith, courage, strength, or experience. God chose to use him, send him, and work wonders through him despite all of Gideon’s shortcomings.

Are you like Gideon? Are you focused on what you are not rather than on who God is? We often think we are just being realistic or humble when we list our limitations, but contrary to what you might think, we actually are being prideful. If we focus on what we cannot do or who we are not, we are really saying to God, “My limitations are greater than Your power and strength.”

When you feel inadequate for the assignment God gives you, choose to believe that He is faithful to do the very thing He has set Himself to do in and through your life—no matter how impossible, no matter how wonderful.

Lord, when You next give me an overwhelming assignment, may I welcome it as an opportunity to see You work.
