The Grace Of Forgiveness

John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”

John 1:29

It’s important to understand: Why exactly did Jesus, this wonderful Son of God, have to die (John 3:16)? The answer lies in the very nature of God—and the very nature of humankind.

God is without sin—and we human beings are not, so we cannot stand before our holy God in our sin. But there is a bridge that enables us to connect with God—Jesus.

Jesus was the spotless Lamb of God. He was spotless because He never sinned. He perfectly kept the law of Moses, He perfectly loved God with all He was, and He perfectly loved people (2 Corinthians 5:21). Jesus’ victory over sin and death was necessary because it secured our forgiveness and allowed us to be in contact with our holy God.

When we invite Him into our hearts to be the Lord of our lives, He moves in. He forgives. He redeems. He restores—regardless of what you have done or what has been done to you. That’s why I often say to let what He has done for you become bigger than what anyone has done to you. That’s the grace of receiving forgiveness and extending it to others.

Lord, You see my faults more clearly than I do, yet You love me with a gracious, forgiving, cleansing, and redeeming love. Thank You.
