The Best Way
The Best Way
You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed. Oh, that my ways were steadfast in obeying your decrees!
Psalm 119:4–5
God’s Word is a vital part of my daily life. If I’m not writing down verses to memorize, then I’m listening to a message or reading a book or studying a passage. I do everything I can to keep God’s Word going into my heart.
When we first become believers, we need its guidance for how to live. For example:
• God tells us how to behave with sexual purity, to keep us from diseases, broken hearts, damaged emotions, and wounded souls (1 Corinthians 5:11).
• God encourages us not to covet other people’s things because He knows we will never be truly happy until we are content with what He has already blessed us with (Exodus 20:17).
• God teaches us to tithe because He wants us to remember that all we have is His and that we are to be involved in His work in the world (Malachi 3:10).
Without the Word of God to guide our lives and shape our perspective, we would remain self-absorbed and self-indulgent. We would remain people who do what is right in their own eyes.
God’s Word is His gift to you and me. As you continue to open His book daily, thank God for helping you learn to live His way.
You established Your laws, Lord, for my good. Show me the truth in Your Word, and help me apply it to my life.
