Rest Up

Rest Up

God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

Genesis 2:3

When you are weary in body, mind, or soul, you must have rest. God specifically gives you rest time to recharge and reinvigorate yourself—He even made a sabbath rest His loving command.

Weariness can steal your passion and leave you depleted and ineffective—so you must actively take care of yourself. Take a short rest inventory: Are you getting the sleep you need? Are you taking a sabbath? Are you being drained by entertainment or are you spending too much time catching up on social media? Sometimes we’re weary because we don’t know how to say no. You can’t do everything that everyone asks you to do. Or perhaps you are driven to control what is not yours to control. Relinquish what is not yours to carry, and rest awhile.

Rest is just as important as nourishment or exercise in keeping a healthy body and soul. Whether it’s in prayer, sleep, silence, solitude, or just turning everything off and sitting with Jesus for a while, take advantage of His healing rest today. As He said to His disciples, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest” (Mark 6:31).

God, thank You for making rest Your loving command. Please show me how to recharge with You.
