Rest For The Weary

Rest For The Weary

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Matthew 11:28

Sleep deprivation can sap our confidence, bring on discouragement, and muddy our thinking—including our thinking about God. Thankfully, we can ask ourselves questions to get to the root of our tiredness.

To take better care of yourself, examine the reasons you’re so worn out. Are you getting the sleep you need? Are you exercising? Are you working too much? Are you taking a Sabbath? (Even the Son of God rested [Matthew 14:13]!)

Maybe you’re weary because you never say no. Are there handoffs you’re reluctant to make? Let people help you according to God’s design. You don’t have to do it all.

Or perhaps you are trying to control what isn’t yours to control. If you may have a blind spot in this area and need wise counsel, seek it out; counselors are ready and willing to help.

Maybe you are weary from waiting. Goals, objectives, and strategies can help you get to where you believe God wants you to go, but you cannot make something happen in your own strength or twist God’s arm about the timing. Your due dates may often differ from your trustworthy God’s appointed times. But stay faithful, trust your wise God, and get some rest!

Lord, when I get weary, please show me how to get not only the physical rest but also the mental, emotional, and spiritual rest I need. Refresh me, I pray.
