Receiving God’s Love

Receiving God’s Love

I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever. For great is your love toward me.

Psalm 86:12–13

Accepting as truth that God loves you unconditionally is profoundly difficult when you have lived your life as a performance-driven, accomplishment-oriented, earn-people’s-acceptance woman. Plus, if you bear deep scars of being rejected in the past and if you have been filled with shame either by that experience or by choices you yourself made, you might find it hard to believe God loves you. You may also be battling true guilt (you are indeed guilty of something you shouldn’t have done) or false guilt (feeling guilty for no legitimate reason) and are therefore keeping your distance from God.

To learn to receive the unconditional love God has for you, simply seek Him. Be in community with His people: they will give you a taste of His love. Choose to believe and commit to memory Scripture that says in no uncertain terms that God loves you. Share your doubts and questions with Him in prayer. Ask Him to reveal to you what is keeping you from accepting His love, and let Him gently lead you back to Himself.

Thank You, Lord, that You want me to know Your love for me and truly live in that reality. Please free me from whatever is holding me back.
