Our First Love

I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first.

Revelation 2:4

I remember when Nick and I first fell in love. He truly captured my heart. I longed to be with him as many hours of the day as possible. And we would literally—and joyfully and unselfishly—do anything for each other. And we still would!

In the same way, when we were first saved, we felt that “in love” feeling. Jesus completely captured our hearts, and we were overcome with wonder at His love, grace, and mercy. Everything we learned was fresh, and we loved spending time in His presence, reading His Word, and worshiping in His house. In every message we heard, God seemed to be speaking directly to us. We were keenly aware of His presence with us and His hand guiding us. Our earnest desire was to be with Him and become like Him.

But over time, we grew up and maybe grew familiar with His great love—in a way that makes us less responsive than we once were. I believe it’s time to rekindle that first-love feeling with God and allow it to take us to the next level in our walk. God loves it when we reignite all the fire He placed in our hearts!

Jesus, I renew my commitment to You with the wonder I felt when I first met You. I never want to forget Your amazing love!
