Helped And Upheld

Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your right hand upholds me.

Psalm 63:7–8

Pure joy is not our natural response when we face challenges like betrayal, illness, financial stress, or an unexpected tragedy. Especially in seasons where it seems that we’re being hit by one thing after another. Yet those of us who know the Lord can face bad news and the worst situation with great hope.

Wherever trials come from—our own brokenness, poor choices, someone else’s choices, a flood, earthquake, tornado, or simply because we live in a fallen world—we can take heart. Whatever the trial, we can choose to trust our sovereign Redeemer, all-good, all-loving, ever-present God. There is no surer Source of hope. Even when we are hurting and grieving—by trusting in Him and entrusting our very lives to Him—we can be hopeful and even joyful.

Why? Because as trials test our faith, those trials reveal where we can grow, and that insight is key to our future. God always seems to first change us and then our circumstances. And that process begins with trusting Him and trusting that He upholds us through everything we face.

Lord, I put my trust in You. Thank You for being my help. I cling to You, and I know that You uphold me today in all I face.
