Growing Generosity

Growing Generosity

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

Acts 20:35

Think about your many blessings: maybe it’s your marriage, family, education, career, house, car, friends, health, spiritual well-being, or church. As your loving God generously pours His blessings into your life, remember that those blessings are not the end of the story. They’re not the climax. They’re the beginning of a new story: being a blessing and expanding your world.

God wants to bless you so that you can be a blessing to others. If the blessings were an end in themselves, then ours would be a pretty self-absorbed, self-indulgent story—and a short one. But passing on those blessings makes us more fruitful and effective for Him. If the point of our whole story is to become more like Jesus—and it is—then our blessings are a lesson in giving, in generosity.

A generous person’s world gets larger and larger, so the more generous you are with your finances, possessions, time, knowledge, and skills, the larger your sphere of influence and impact will be. Believe Jesus when He says that it truly is more blessed to give than to receive. Then try it and see!

Lord, everything I have is from You. May I be a wise and generous steward, sharing freely and happily all that You have entrusted to my care.
