Grace For Running The Race

Nathan replied, “The LORD has taken away your sin.”

2 Samuel 12:13

David was one of the most famous kings of Israel in Bible times. He was about fifty years old and had been successfully ruling the nation of Israel for almost twenty years when He had an affair with another man’s wife—Bathsheba.

David had everything going for him, but he made a terrible choice.

The same can happen to us. We can be running our race well, and then we begin to relax. We let down our spiritual guard, and before we know it, we stumble and fall. In circumstances similar to David’s, after he realized the magnitude of what he’d done, many people might have thought, It’s all over for me now. I knew better, but I’ve destroyed my relationship with God. He will never forgive me for this!

Not David. He knew the truth. Yes, he had taken a spectacular fall, but he got back up, repented, accepted God’s forgiveness, and finished his race. David suffered consequences for his actions, but he got up and back on course—forgiven, with a new lease on life.

No matter what you’ve done—or what’s been done to you—get back up. God is for you and not against you. He will always be just as merciful and gracious to you as He was to David.

Thank You, Lord, for Your grace and forgiveness. May I never hesitate to confess my sins to You, confident I will hear in my heart that You have forgiven me.
