Connect Through Thanks

Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. For the LORD is the great God, the great King above all gods.

Psalm 95:2–3

When I miscarried between my two girls, I was so disappointed—but praise and thanksgiving started me moving forward. In our darkest hour, Nick and I went to church. Surrounded by our friends, we worshiped—even through our tears. As we thanked God for what we did have, and praised His holy name, our hearts changed. They lightened. And the atmosphere around us changed.

When you face something difficult, start by thanking Him. He loves you so much. He has given you eyes to see the colors of this world and ears to enjoy the sounds of birds singing, babies laughing, and music that stirs your soul. Respond by delighting Him with words of praise and gratitude. Of course, music is a natural vehicle for your thanks too. I believe it is an untapped treasure chest of praise that can shift the atmosphere of a room and help change our perspectives, uplifting us toward the heart of God.

Today, strengthen your connection to your Father with thanks and praise. I cannot tell you how this simple act has helped me to keep going in the toughest times.

Lord, I have so much to thank You for—that I’m alive today, that in You I’m strong, that You love me unconditionally. I praise Your holy name.
