The Road To Calvary: False Accusations

Pilate said to [Jesus], “Do You not hear how many things they testify against You?” But He answered him not one word.

Before being exonerated by DNA tests, Brandon Moon, of Kansas City, Missouri, served nearly seventeen years for a crime he did not commit. The American Bar Association found that more than 150 people in 31 states and the District of Columbia served a total of 1,800 years in prison before being exonerated by DNA evidence.

Being falsely accused can make you feel helpless, especially when the results can devastate your life. What should you do if this happens to you? When Jesus was falsely accused of blasphemy and other crimes, “He . . . did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously” (1 Peter 2:23). Jesus chose to entrust Himself to the Judge of all the earth, who will ultimately do right (Genesis 18:25). It may be that we have to endure the temporal pain of false accusation in order to gain the eternal benefit of integrity and trust.

When you think you have exhausted your defense, realize that you haven’t. The same One who was falsely accused on the road to Calvary is your advocate with the Father (1 John 2:1).

There is no other method of living piously and justly than that of depending upon God.
