Living In Harmony

Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.

Romans 12:16, NIV

Want to know where 1,080 people live in Harmony every day? Just travel to Fillmore County, Minnesota, and visit the town of Harmony. It bills itself as the “Biggest Little Town in Southern Minnesota” and features the largest Amish population in the state. The town may occasionally face misunderstandings and disagreements, but it’s fair to say that everyone there lives in Harmony.

The truth is, of course, that we should all live in harmony. Peter said, “All of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble” (1 Peter 3:8, NIV).

Harmony is a musical term. In a musical score, the harmony doesn’t always agree with the melody, but it always goes with it. The harmony adds to the melody so that the overall experience is interesting and enjoyable.

If two people always agree on everything, they double their chances of being wrong! We don’t have to always agree in our opinions, but we should strive to be agreeable in our dispositions.
