A Promise A Day

You are God, and Your words are true, and You have promised . . . goodness to Your servant.

2 Samuel 7:28

As we shift gears for a new year, remember that God has a promise for every day, a reassurance for every crisis, and grace for every need. You can take the year one day at a time—and one promise at a time—praying for God’s direction as you face the opportunities and challenges of the next twelve months.

E. M. Bounds writes, “Prayer is based directly and specifically upon God’s revealed promises in Christ Jesus. It has no other ground upon which to base its plea. . . . Prayer goes by faith into the great fruit orchard of God’s exceeding great and precious promises, and with hand and heart picks the ripest and richest fruit.”

It’s impossible to determine the specific number of promises in the Bible because they’re scattered throughout Scripture in so many phrases and forms that it’s often hard to say whether a verse is a command, a truth, a promise, or a prayer. It’s like a vault full of precious jewels. But wherever we find them in the Bible, they are precious and true. A promise a day keeps the devil at bay. Get a jump on the New Year by committing yourself to a promise-anchored year.

Promises are God’s golden fruit to be plucked by the hand of prayer.
