Who Needs To Know That You Have It All Under Control

He is before all things, and by him all things hold together.

CAN I REMIND YOU OF SOMETHING, MOMMA? God is not surprised by this season of your life. He’s not surprised by the events that are unfolding around you. There are many things to do and much to prepare, but the Lord has it all under control—even in those moments when things seem to be unraveling.

When He walked the earth, Jesus ordered His life around appointed times and seasons. One of the Jewish feasts that Jesus and His disciples celebrated together was Passover, which reminded them how God spared the lives of His people in Egypt.

Just before Jesus was crucified, it was time to celebrate the Passover again. Scripture tells us that Jesus eagerly looked forward to eating this meal with His friends because He knew His time with them was short. He knew it wouldn’t be long before He went to the cross, but much needed to be done to prepare His disciples. So Jesus gathered Peter and John and gave them instructions...

“Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover.”

“Where do you want us to prepare for it?” they asked.

He replied, “As you enter the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him to the house that he enters, and say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ He will show you a large room upstairs, all furnished. Make preparations there.”

They left and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover.

These men knew they could trust Jesus. They did exactly as He directed, but they had no idea that the meal they were preparing would be Jesus’s last supper. They didn’t know that as they were preparing the meal, Judas, one of their friends, was preparing to betray Jesus. They didn’t know that in the hours following this dinner, Jesus would be put on trial, sentenced to death, and crucified. They had no idea.

As those events unfolded, many of Jesus’s friends felt confused. Wasn’t He the promised Savior? How was He going to help them now?

But Jesus had prepared their hearts just as Peter and John had prepared the meal. He told them what was coming in words that their hearts could understand. At one point before going to the cross, He said, “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth” (John 16:12-13).

Truly, as with His disciples, it is a gift that Jesus doesn’t always tell us what is coming. It is a grace that He doesn’t disclose more than we need to know or can handle. But as I think about all you might be facing, I feel compelled to remind you that the same God who led you through every moment leading up to this one will be faithful to lead you through all that is coming next.

Tonight we pray for the momma who needs to know that You have it all under control. Lord, there are so many changes happening, and she just feels overwhelmed. Tonight, no matter what is trying to remove her peace, please help her give that situation to You. Please remind her that You can carry it all. Help her to find rest tonight during whatever this busy season holds.

We ask in Jesus’s name, amen.

Lord, when I get anxious, help me to place _______________ into Your hands, knowing You have it all under control.
