Who Is Mentally, Physically, Or Emotionally Exhausted
I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.
PERHAPS YOU ARE LIKE US. When we are mentally tired, we just shut down. We can’t make any more decisions or solve any more problems. When we are physically tired, our bodies ache, and we are sore all over. We cannot do one more load of laundry or wash one more stack of dishes. We have reached the end of our emotional rope, and we are done.
We wish we could somehow prevent those days of exhaustion from happening. We so wish that as Christian mommas, none of us would ever run out of strength, but that’s not what God promises us. The truth is that even we Christian women experience times of great burden and struggle. We get tired. We get frustrated. We feel human emotions and navigate imperfect circumstances.
In those moments it is important to remember how much God loves us. His love isn’t shown by the absence of struggles. His love is shown by the presence of His Spirit. He does not leave us when times are hard and our difficulties seem to mount. The exact opposite is true.
When writing to the church in Rome, the apostle Paul made a powerful declaration: “Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? . . . No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us” (Romans 8:35, 37, NLT). The early church faced these very issues. They lived through the threat of the sword, danger, and famine. They were persecuted and hungry. But Paul reminded them that in the midst of the worst circumstances, nothing could separate them from the love of Christ.
Momma, you may not be facing sword or calamity, but what you’re enduring matters to God. Your experience of exhaustion does not indicate the absence of His presence. He is with you even now. Jesus told his friends, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Momma, you are loved by the Lord. Let me say that again so that it sinks deep into your heart, mind, and soul: You are loved by the Lord, and nothing can ever separate you from Him.
So when exhaustion comes in any form, lean into Jesus’s never-ending love for you. Rest in the truth that “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak” (Isaiah 40:29). He is with you to help you through every circumstance. He will provide the strength that overcomes exhaustion, and He will give you power to overcome your weaknesses. Let us pray and believe for His presence to strengthen us tonight.
Tonight we pray for the momma who is mentally, physically, or emotionally exhausted. Lord, You have seen all she has been carrying. You’ve seen each faithful step she has taken, and You’ve walked through her days with her. That means You know what her heart needs tonight before we even ask You for it. Whether it’s a good night of sleep or just time to relax, You know what will help her. Meet her in this moment and bring her peace.
We ask in Jesus’s name, amen.
Jesus, help me to take heart, knowing You love me and will provide the strength and stamina I need tomorrow to . . .
