Who Is Making The Best Decisions She Can

If it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.

THE HOLY SPIRIT HAD DESCENDED on Jesus’s apostles (also called disciples) on the Day of Pentecost. The Holy Spirit had filled them with power from on high just as the Lord had promised. The apostles now went about sharing the gospel of Jesus, healing the sick, and setting free those possessed by demons.

As the religious leaders saw the crowds following the disciples, they became jealous and had the apostles arrested, much like they had done to Jesus just a few months before. But while these men were in jail, an angel came at night to set them free. He told them to go and continue preaching the gospel. By daybreak, the men were back in the Temple.

When the religious leaders sent for Peter and the apostles so they could be brought in for questioning, they were stunned to hear that the men were no longer in jail. When the leaders learned that the disciples were preaching in the Temple, they were so angry that they wanted them put to death. But Gamaliel, a respected leader and teacher, had this to say: “In the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God” (Acts 5:38-39). You see, his opinion was very different from the rest of the leaders.

Momma, there are so many competing voices in your life. People offer advice on a million topics from breastfeeding to homeschooling to when to allow Internet access or give kids their own smartphones. Everyone has an opinion. If you don’t hear it from someone in person, you will certainly hear about it on social media.

The key is to be like Gamaliel, because in the end this wise leader trusted the Lord to show what was true. And you are a wise momma who is the most experienced person when it comes to your own family. You can trust the Lord with your decisions. He will show you what is best for your children.

Tonight we pray for the momma who is making the best decisions she can. Lord, there are so many competing voices saying what is right. She is a good momma, and she feels like she knows what is best for her kids. The weight of all the options is heavy, and the last thing she needs is to carry the burden of others’ opinions on her decisions. Tonight we pray for peace for her uncertain mind. Bless her and give her wisdom.
