Who Is Believing For A Miracle

Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.

MOMMA SAID IT WAS IMPORTANT for our clothes to be clean—even if they weren’t new—and I believed her. So my job as the oldest daughter in a family of five children was to hang clothes on the line that stretched from our bathroom window to the neighbor’s house next door. Spring, summer, fall, and winter, I stood on the toilet lid so I could lean out the high window to put our family’s clothes out to dry. In the winter months, the blankets, towels, trousers, shirts, dresses, and socks would all freeze solid in the harsh New England weather.

In the winter of 1974, my first year at college in Oklahoma, I faced a new challenge when it came to laundering my own clothes. I didn’t have much money to my name; as a matter of fact, I didn’t even have enough money to wash my clothes at the dormitory laundromat. So I prayed. Have you ever believed God for something as simple as coins to do your laundry? We often believe that God works miracles only in big situations, but on my afternoon walk to class one day, I experienced His miracle-working power in the simplest of ways.

Surrounded by dozens of other students hurrying to class to get out of the cold, I was praying for the Lord to help me somehow get my clothes clean when I saw it. Lying on top of the freshly fallen snow was a crisp ten-dollar bill. There was no way to know who had dropped it or how long it had been there, but it was as though it were invisible to everyone but me. It wasn’t just enough. It was more than I needed.

There are so many stories in Scripture that depict impossible situations being changed by our unstoppable God. I love reading about healings, deliverances, supernatural provision, and supernatural strength. These stories stir my faith because I remember what God said in Malachi 3:6 (NKJV): “I am the LORD, I do not change.”

Did you catch that? The God who created the universe, the stars, the planets, and everything in it hasn’t changed. The God who created each of us right down to our DNA and who knows every hair on our heads doesn’t change. The God who healed the unhealable, changed the impossible, restored sight to the blind, and gave hope to the hopeless and life to the lifeless is the same God today.

I believe that the Lord can still intervene in any situation and change it in an instant. I believe that He can display His immeasurable power in our lives even today. And I believe that He is more than able to do all that we ask, think, or imagine and can supply every need. He is still a miracle-working God!

I have personally witnessed the physical miracles of the disabled walking, the blind eye seeing, limbs lengthened, and hearing restored. I have been the recipient of more financial miracles than I can count. I have watched as the broken and hurting have received miracles in their relationships and emotions.

John, one of Jesus’s disciples, reported that “Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.” He is referring to the supernatural abundance of miracles that our Lord performed while on earth. Friend, Jesus is still in the miracle-working business, and we can still believe He will step into our own impossible situations.

Momma, is there something you need from Him? Is there something that only He can do? As we wrote this devotion, we paused to pray for the ones reading it. That includes you. God can meet you right now. Let’s ask Him together.

Tonight we pray for the momma who is believing for the impossible. Lord, maybe it’s the miracle of peace in her heart, or maybe it’s the miracle of healing for herself or someone she loves. Maybe she needs a miracle in her finances, or marriage, or she needs a way where there seems to be no way. Lord, maybe she just needs the miracle of joy in the middle of uncertainty or grief. Tonight we thank You, Lord, for being a miracle-working God. We come together in faith and ask for You to do what only You can. We believe You will.
