Who Has A Determined Son

Who Has A Determined Son

When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

Luke 1:41

THERE IS A SAYING that boys will turn your hair gray. If Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist, had not already been an old, white-haired woman before she became pregnant, her son likely would have given her plenty of grays. Before John was born, an angel had appeared to Elizabeth’s husband, Zechariah, and said, “He [John] will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth, for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. . . . He will be filled with the Holy Spirit even before he is born. He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God” (Luke 1:14-16).

John surely was a joy to his parents, but his life was far from ordinary. He let his momma know when he was still in her womb that he was full of destiny and God’s purpose. When Mary, the mother of Jesus, visited Elizabeth while they were both pregnant, she greeted Elizabeth, causing John, already full of the Holy Spirit, to leap in his mother’s womb.

When John grew up, he was so determined to announce the coming of our Lord that he preached in the wilderness and survived on locusts and wild honey. He wore camel’s hair clothing and a leather belt. He preached repentance to all who sought him out, and he baptized many. He wasn’t afraid to call out sin wherever he saw it, including in the religious and political leaders. John’s life provides a clear picture of being a determined son.

Momma, raising a determined son is a high calling. It is not an easy task and can be quite challenging. But remember that the Lord picked you to be your son’s momma, just like he chose Elizabeth to be John the Baptist’s momma. He knows exactly who you are and exactly who your son is. He knows who your son will grow up to be. You can trust in the Lord as you watch Him fulfill your child’s destiny.

Tonight we pray for the momma of a determined son. Lord, there is nothing quite like the relationship between a momma and her little boy, no matter his age. From the time he was born, this mom knew her heart would never be the same. Her son is fearless, adventurous, and brave. And each day she prays that You would help her know exactly how to help him become the man You created him to be. This momma needs strength, peace, and sometimes a strong cup of coffee to keep her on her toes, but she wouldn’t trade a moment of it. Bless this momma and her son(s).

We ask in Jesus’s name, amen.

Father, please direct and protect this determined boy in my life:
