Who Feels Like She Doesn’t Have Much To Offer

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

WHEN MY OLDER DAUGHTER WAS BORN, I wanted her nursery to be perfect. That included buying matching sheets, curtains, bath towels, and little facecloths. There was an attractive changing table with a place for the baby powder and all the extras that newborns and infants need. The rocking chair, which was a gift from a friend, was my absolute favorite item in the room, and my daughter and I spent hours rocking in that chair together. I was making a home for her by creating a special place. The thought and care I put into it were intentional because I loved her so much.

God did the same for us. The Bible opens by telling us that “in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Do you see what He did? He created a space for us to live. He filled it with everything we would need, and He placed the first man, Adam, and the first woman, Eve, in the Garden of Eden. He met with them there in the cool of the day.

Every letter in the Hebrew language developed from a pictograph—a picture that depicts an object or an idea. The first word in the Bible begins with the Hebrew letter bet. It’s a picture of a house or home. Amazing! From the beginning of creation, from the first letter of His Word, God created for us a home, the earth, and settled us into this heavenly universe. He created a place for our stories to be told, especially the story of salvation.

Momma, your love is like that. You love your children so much that the first thing you did was create a space for them in your home, a place where they would be safe and know that they are loved. When we make a space for those we love, we are truly reflecting our Creator’s care for us. You may wonder whether you did enough today, but the big picture shouts that you do so much more than enough for your family. They are loved, they are safe, and they are home.

Tonight we pray for the momma who feels like she doesn’t have much to offer. Lord, she does her best to create a space for her family to feel loved and safe. She tries to give them everything she can. She pours her heart out in every way possible but sometimes wonders if her love is enough. Tonight we ask You to remind her that Your love for her and her children is more than enough. You help her lead them, provide for them, and give them a home. Help this momma to rest tonight. Give her strength and peace for tomorrow.

We ask in Jesus’s name, amen.
