A Prayer For Siblings

A Prayer for Siblings

O God, You have given us the gift of family.

Thank You for the gift of together.

Thank You for the children

You have knit together

As brothers and sisters,

Their stories connected

And interwoven in the fabric of family.

God, we have seen our children grow

And develop their own personalities,

And we ask You to help our children value each other

And the gift of having someone

To journey through life with.

When they argue,

May they ask for forgiveness.

When they disappoint each other,

May they heal what was broken.

We pray that they will always defend each other.

May they see their sibling as a lifelong friend,

A gift of family

Connected by the thread of love.

In the common language,

In the shared experiences,

In the laughter,

In the loss,

Bring them together

So they might not grow apart as they grow older.

Connect them in a legacy of love

That goes beyond bloodlines.

In the sibling rivalry, give peace.

May they realize they’re on the same team—

Each other’s first playmate and first friend.

May they know that being together

Is a gift from You.

We want our children to be unified,

No matter the different paths their preferences lead them on.

May they see each other as teammates.

May they know they belong to each other.

May they make memories while they’re young

So they can laugh at their adventures

When they themselves are crowned with gray.

May they be united in You.

May they be each other’s defender as well as playmate.

Help us let each of these children know

Just how loved and valued they are.

May we never play favorites,

And may we be consistent

In reminding them

That we are a family

And we stick together

And work together

And cheer each other on.

O God, we thank You for the gift of brothers and sisters.
