A Prayer For Pentecost
A Prayer for Pentecost
Seventh Sunday after Easter
O God of mighty, rushing winds,
Would You fill our house
With Your Spirit
So we may declare Your wonders
In all we say and all we do?
O God of mighty, rushing winds,
Help our family remember
You are the God of all.
Your holy power and Your mighty presence
Does not belong
To just one nation or only one tongue,
To just one race or only one culture.
Forgive us, O God, for the ways we have
Believed our way is the only way,
Believed our voice is the only voice.
For in doing so, we have quenched Your Holy Spirit,
Sinning against You and against others.
O God of mighty, rushing winds,
Help us live with humility in Your Spirit.
Help us show our children how to stay curious
As part of Your church.
Light a fire in the minds and hearts
Of our daughters and sons,
So that we may be a family amazed and astonished
By the beauty in all who burn bright,
Wildfires of glory.
Our family is part of a global family,
Reflecting the lapping flames of Your love.
O God of mighty, rushing winds,
Let our home and our hearts be gathering places
Where borders and languages do not separate
Us from You or us from one another.
Ignite in our family a warmth and welcome
So we may always see You and feel Your presence
In us and in our children and in our neighbor.
For You have poured out Your Spirit
So liberally and so continually,
Like a wildfire that can’t be contained,
Setting aglow wonders in the sky above
And embers on the earth below.
O God of mighty, rushing winds,
Would You fill our house
With Your Spirit
So we may declare Your wonders
In all we say and all we do?
