A Prayer for Epiphany

We come to You, O Light in the darkness.

We come to You, O Light of the world.

We worship You, Son of God,

Whose glory has risen upon us,

Who traversed the cosmos,

And who broke into our world with love

For all people, for all places, for all time.

We have unwrapped the presents

And placed the garland back in the boxes.

And now, in the quiet, we seek

The brightness of Your dawn,

Just like the three kings so long ago.

Let this not be an end to Christmas joy

But rather a beginning,

Beckoning us toward the future,

Toward a life of worshiping You.

We thank You for the gifts

You have given this family—

For the laughter

And adventures shared,

For the stories,

And for the hard times

That have brought us together.

May our children reflect the imagination of the magi,

Living in the holy contradiction

Of the wisdom that leads

To worshiping an infant.

May our children reflect Your light.

Go with them on their journeys

In the coming years.

Guide them like a star in the sky.

Bring them to You, rejoicing

At the divine light given to us.

We come to You, O Light in the darkness.

We come to You, O Light of the world,

As we care for our children.

May we walk with them

As they enter into pilgrimages

Of their own.

May they receive the sacred gift

Of being bringers of hope

And bearers of Your great light.
