Mighty, Remarkable Secrets

This is what the LORD says—the LORD who made the earth, who formed and established it, whose name is the LORD: Ask me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come. Jeremiah 33:2-3

These verses, which Corrie ten Boom, the marvelous missionary from Holland, called “God’s Private Telephone Number,” are really quite amazing. They mean that God invites us not only to come to him in prayer but to do so believing that he promises to answer us and tell us “remarkable secrets,” things that only God knows. These are more than likely things we need to know that we’d never discover unless we asked and listened.

I once heard one of the leading eye surgeons in the country say that when he was on a difficult case in the operating room and had no idea what to do next, he relied on today’s passage. He called on God, resting on his promise in Jeremiah 33:3, and asked him what he should do next and how to operate to restore the patient’s sight or to correct the problem. The surgeon said that God had never failed to answer him, even showing him surgical procedures never done before and giving him supernatural wisdom.

Let me encourage you to ask God to show you “remarkable secrets,” and then pay attention when he taps you on the shoulder in the middle of your commute or while you’re at the computer. Take a “listening walk,” not to list prayer requests or talk to God but to listen for what the Lord’s Spirit will impress on you. Read his love letter to you, the Bible, with a listening heart, and stay tuned in to his Spirit through the day. As you listen and respond to the One who loves you the most, he will guide you as the apple of his eye, and your life will be blessed beyond your dreams or imagination. —CHERI

Lord of love, I am calling upon you with this problem or dilemma: ____________________. I want to hear your voice and know you more. Quiet my heart, and help me to be still and know that you are God, as you show me wonderful and unsearchable things I do not know.

If you keep watch over your hearts, and listen for the voice of God and learn of him, in one short hour you can learn more from him than you could learn from man in a thousand years.
