God’s Daily Touch

God’s Daily Touch

As for me, I look to the LORD for help. I wait confidently for God to save me, and my God will certainly hear me.

Micah 7:7

I have a favorite activity to help me discourage the victim mentality: I watch for God’s extraordinary touch in my ordinary activities. It started a few years ago whenever I bought a new calendar for the coming year. I would list all the birthdays and anniversaries on the appropriate days, then turn to each month, plop my finger on a random date, and write the command “Watch for God’s touch” in the space.

Then, as those particular days arrived throughout the year, I watched for ways in which God reminded me of his presence. Sometimes his special touch came through a new insight into a Scripture verse, an encouraging phone call or letter, an unexpected and much-needed rebate check, or a Rocky Mountain double rainbow. Sometimes nothing dramatic at all occurred, but I still had a fresh awareness of God’s presence because I was watching for it. Gradually, the most amazing thing happened: Because I was looking for God’s touch on specific days, I found myself aware of it on other days as well. Today, I no longer write “Watch for God’s touch” on occasional calendar dates. Instead, I enjoy looking for it every day. —SANDRA

Lord, thank you for the many ways you reveal your peace, your power, your very presence to me as I look for them. And on those days when life pulls my attention away from you, remind me those are the times when I need to concentrate on you all the more.

I always told the Lord, “I trust you. I don’t know where to go or what to do, but I expect you to lead me.” And He always did.
