What Did She Find?

What Did She Find?

Queen Of Sheba

Read: 1 Kings 10:8-9

Danielle likes to tell people that she always finds more than she’s looking for. When her dog ran away, Danielle walked through the park near her house calling him. On her way back, she found a man’s wallet under a tree. When she went to drop the wallet by the elderly owner’s home, she had trouble finding his house. The man’s good-looking young neighbor offered his assistance, and ten months later, he and Danielle married. Danielle ended up with her dog, a cash reward, and a husband.

Did the queen of Sheba find more than she went looking for? She returned to her country with her mission successfully completed. She had seen the famous King Solomon for herself and had found that his wealth and wisdom far exceeded the reports she had heard. During their visit, they had also established trade agreements between their countries.

But did the queen go home with something more valuable than the riches carried on her camels’ backs and the satisfaction of having her questions answered? Did her deep conversations with Solomon open her eyes to the source of his wisdom? On the long trip home, did the queen’s mind dwell on statements Solomon had made about the one true God of heaven?

Many traditions and legends focus on the queen of Sheba’s visit to Solomon, but the Bible doesn’t give us many details. If the queen returned home with only material wealth and intellectual knowledge, her trip was a miserable failure. In the same way, our life journeys are unsuccessful if we pursue only worldly riches and wisdom. At the end of our lives, the most important consideration will be whether or not we have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Perhaps the queen of Sheba came to place her faith in God. If so, she found much more than she was looking for during her famous visit.

What do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?
