The Right Place At The Right Time

The Right Place at the Right Time

Queen Esther

Read: Esther 3:12-15; 4:1-14

I listened with amazement as my friend Alice told about an incident from her childhood. Alice’s sister had been on a new medication that affected her balance. One afternoon, she opened the door to the family’s basement and tumbled down the stairs. Their dad had been in his basement workshop, and a sudden impulse made him walk toward the stairs. He arrived at the bottom step at precisely the right moment to catch his daughter in his arms and keep her from landing on the concrete floor.

Queen Esther saved many lives by being in the right place at the right time. Her guardian understood that it was no accident that the former queen had been deposed by a whim of the king or that Esther had been chosen out of the most beautiful girls in the empire to replace her. God had placed Esther in just the right position at just the right time to save her people from annihilation. Mordecai urged Queen Esther to use her God-given opportunity to approach the king and plead for mercy for the Jews.

God has placed each of us in a unique position. The people, needs, and opportunities around us are arranged by God so that we can make a difference in our corner of the world. Our hands may be the only ones to reach out to a neighbor. Our words of encouragement may be the only ones a friend hears. Our smile may be the only one a stranger sees. If we know God, we are daughters of the King, and like Queen Esther, we have been placed where we are for “just such a time as this.”

Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?
