A Powerful Story
Jairus’s Daughter
Read: Mark 5:42-43
We all sat mesmerized as the guest speaker at the banquet shared her amazing life story. Everyone in the audience was touched. In 1977, Gianna Jensen survived an abortion by saline injection when her mother was seven and a half months pregnant. Gianna weighed two pounds and was later diagnosed with cerebral palsy due to lack of oxygen to her brain during the failed abortion. Doctors predicted that the little girl would never be able to lift her head. Today, Gianna travels the country speaking and singing, and she also runs marathons. Everywhere she goes, those who hear her are touched by her amazing life story.
Jairus’s daughter also had an amazing story to share with others. As this little girl grew up, she probably never tired of hearing about the miracle of her life—how she had died while her loving father was begging Jesus to heal her, and how Jesus had come to their home and called her back to life and health. Everyone in the neighborhood soon learned her story and pointed her out as the girl who had been brought back from death. As a woman, she knew that her life had purpose and meaning because her father’s love and Jesus’ touch had given her a second chance.
Some women have dramatic stories to tell about how God delivered them from abusive situations, freed them from addictions, healed them of terminal diseases, or rescued them from danger. We may not feel that our story can have an impact on others, but if we’re believers, we have a compelling testimony to share. Our Father’s love and Jesus’ touch not only healed us of the fatal disease of sin but also gave us new life that will never end. Any life transformed by God’s love has a powerful story, and one worth sharing with others.
Give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life.
Romans 6:13
