Look And See!

Ears that hear and eyes that see,the LORD has made them both.

When was the last time you thanked God for the ability to see and hear? Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you couldn’t? We are so immersed in man-made, artificial sights and sounds that we often neglect the amazing wonders of God’s natural world. And so, just for fun, I want to invite you to go outside and look around.

Since it is summertime, there are lot of bugs to see. Even the little ant is intriguing. Look at those skinny little legs. Did you know that an ant can lift fifty times its weight? That’s like you picking up three automobiles at one time. Sunflowers are fun to watch: the sunflower faces the sun at all times throughout the day, starting the day facing east and ending it facing west.

Have you ever gotten up just to watch the sun rise? It is a mysteriously majestic sight. Then in the cool of the night, lie on the grass to stare up at the stars like when you were a kid. Drink in the wonder and beauty.

And what sounds in God’s world are you missing? The sounds of birds early in the morning, the sound of a child’s laughter, a kitten’s sweet little purr. I love the sound of crickets on a summer night. Here’s a little cricket trivia: if you count the number of chirps in fifteen seconds and then add thirty-seven, the number you get will tell you the approximate outside temperature (Fahrenheit). Now that’s astounding!

Make It Personal . . . Live It Out!

Even though we do have eyes and ears, we often miss another facet of life completely. We don’t notice the faces and silent tears of people just a few feet away. Should we? I believe the answer is yes. Whether it’s the homeless man on the corner or the lonely woman next door, God wants you to see them as people he loves.

Let’s Pray

First of all, I can’t ever remember saying thank you, Lord, for giving me sight and hearing. I realize now they are both a gift and responsibility. Thank you. Help me to really look around me every day to see your wondrous works.
