A True Gem

For today’s Wisdom for Women we are going to read about the Proverbs 31 woman. She is my personal hero. There are so many practical lessons. Read carefully. If you learn even just one thing from her life, it’s a good thing.

A wife of noble character who can find?She is worth far more than rubies.Her husband has full confidence in herand lacks nothing of value.She brings him good, not harm,all the days of her life.She selects wool and flaxand works with eager hands.She is like the merchant ships,bringing her food from afar.She gets up while it is still dark;she provides food for her familyand portions for her servant girls.She considers a field and buys it;out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.She sets about her work vigorously;her arms are strong for her tasks.She sees that her trading is profitable,and her lamp does not go out at night.In her hand she holds the distaffand grasps the spindle with her fingers.She opens her arms to the poorand extends her hands to the needy.When it snows, she has no fear for her household;for all of them are clothed in scarlet.She makes coverings for her bed;she is clothed in fine linen and purple.Her husband is respected at the city gate,where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.She makes linen garments and sells them,and supplies the merchants with sashes.

Make It Personal . . . Live It Out!

King Solomon married many princesses who were high maintenance—“poodles on pillows.” In contrast, a loyal, creative, industrious woman was one in a million. Must we sew, buy fields, and grow grapes to fit the Proverbs 31 mold? That’s not the point. The point is, do the best with what you have. I learned to be a morning person from this portrait. As a young single woman I read that the godly wife “brings [her husband] good, not harm, all the days of her life.” It rang true and right. Will you read the description again? If it stirs in your heart a noble purpose, pray about it and put it to practice.
