Refurbishing The Temple

Refurbishing the Temple

Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

For me, whenever it’s time for another birthday, it seems as though every year has passed by faster than the year before. Let’s be honest with ourselves: life is short, and we need to be serious about taking care of ourselves.

Don’t get me wrong; I’m as guilty as the next person. I’ve got a weakness for ice cream and other desserts. But I always try to keep my intake moderate, fitting it with everything I put into my body—water, juices, well-balanced meals, and no tobacco or alcohol. And now that I’m no longer coaching, I don’t have easy access within the office to treadmills and StairMasters. I need the workouts more, but I have to make a more conscious effort to do them.

I’m not going to live forever. How long will this body that God created be around? Seventy years? Ninety? One hundred and ten? Only He knows.

Yet so often we don’t pay much attention to what we’re doing to ourselves, despite knowing the long-term consequences. God wants more from us!

Some of you probably have body issues. You aren’t in shape and you don’t like the way you look. Or you’re frustrated that you haven’t successfully kicked a habit that you’ve been wanting to kick. The truth is, your body is still a temple, whether it’s run-down or not.

But where you are now doesn’t determine where you can be if you decide to change. Make tomorrow healthier than today. And keep going. One day at a time. Transformation doesn’t happen overnight, and yet incremental changes in diet and exercise can make dramatic differences when done consistently over a period of time. Health and satisfaction result. And hope.

Ultimately, God wants you to do His work here on earth. The more you honor Him with your body, the greater the likelihood that you’ll have longer to do just that.

Uncommon Key > Your body is a temple, created by God. If you haven’t been concerned about what you put into it or have been slacking off in keeping active, make a change. From this point forward, honor Him by taking care of yourself physically.
