Our Part in God’s Plan

When the Lord Jesus had finished talking with them, he was taken up into heaven and sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand. And the disciples went everywhere and preached, and the Lord worked through them, confirming what they said by many miraculous signs. Mark 16:19-20

After Jesus had left them to go and be with His Father, the disciples were compelled by His instructions to be His witnesses all over the world with their words and lives.

It’s the way He planned it and how it has happened.

I’ve heard it said that if Pontius Pilate had only listened to some of the voices of reason (like his wife’s) whispering to let Christ go, rather than being swayed by the hysterical voices of the mob and religious leaders demanding that he turn Christ over to be killed, that Jesus Christ would not have had to die.

But that wasn’t God’s plan. The most significant part of His plan to save humanity was to send His Son to die for our sins, be raised from the dead to assure us of the hope of eternal life, and return to the right hand of the Father, leaving the Helper—the Holy Spirit—to instruct and guide us in our lives. That’s how it had to happen. Pilate might have seemed to have a choice, but in reality, he had a predetermined role as part of God’s plan of redemption for humankind.

When Jesus returned to the Father, the next part of the plan was launched—the expansion of God’s Kingdom through the spreading of the Good News of the risen Christ. How was that going to happen? Through the disciples He had selected to train, equip, and encourage, sent throughout the world with the message of God’s love for each of us through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Do you suppose we are a part of that plan? What role do we play?

My dad was quiet by nature, and so am I. About things of importance, however, I’ve learned to speak up, just as he did. And my faith in Christ is one of those things. Being a witness to how He has changed my life is part of His plan, a role I get to play.

It’s that simple.
